team celebration netball Birregurra Saints

The Birregurra Football Netball Club is one of Colac & District’s oldest sporting institutions. Over its 125+ year history, it has enjoyed the support of a moderate, yet extremely loyal supporter group. It has carried the hopes of the town in many respects.
From its almost shambolic early days, the club has enjoyed periods as a local powerhouse at certain times but also dealt with sometimes morale-sapping lows, especially during the 1960s. It recovered from going into recess in 1966 by avoiding its previous surrounds in the now-defunct Polwarth league and making its return via the Colac & District Football League.

The move to the CDFL, now known as the CDFNL, has provided Birre with stability. The club has weathered some lean patches in times but has steadily improved during the past seasons.

On field success has come in fits & starts over the years. Birregurra can happily boast it has 6 premierships in CDFNL & 14 overall.
Eight of those flags have come from 2 prolonged eras of success, the club’s great sides of the late 1920s to mid 1930s and from the mid 1980 to early 1990s.

Off field, Birre prides itself as a family club and its many sets of brothers within its football ranks and sisters on the netball side over the years is testament to that.

The willingness of former players, mums & dads to get involved with the club in a range of roles have also enabled it to not only survive but continue to thrive, even when all seemed lost.
That overwhelming sense of community pride in the club has also delivered scenes of sheer joy when things have gone right. Birre knows how to put on a party & each success has been celebrated long & hard.
